Petrified Forest NP

Petrified Forest NP

Painted Desert – Northeast Arizona

Not sure how to explain this visit…. the Petrified National Forest is different. The visitors center is, well, big… but doesn’t appear to be used that much… The restaurant and gift shop – big again…

The drive thru the park is _very_ interesting, We started at the RT 40 entrance and left the park on RT 180. This was a perfect “loop” for us to return to our KOA campground.

We took a side trip down the Agate Bridge Spur to see a really cool formation. We then made our way to the Jasper Forest Road which ended at some awesome views and hikes.

As you look around you will see trees that have been turned to stone… and petroglyphs left by those that used to make this area their home.
